Vandalism in Jadavpur University

On 19th September Union minister Babul Supriyo, accompanied by Agnimitra Paul, a BJP leader, reached the university to attend an event organised by the ABVP. However, while entering the campus, he was encountered with students of left leaning organisations AFSU and SFI who stopped them from entering the campus for around one and half hours.
Moreover, while entering the campus, Babul Supriyo was greeted with ‘go back’ slogans and shown black flags. The agitating students heckled him by pulling his hair, pushing him and tearing his shirt. Agnimitra Paul was also roughed up.
As Babul Supriyo prepared to leave after attending the seminar, he faced a demonstration by the students again and failed to exit the university campus even after for a few hours. The situation escalated to such an extent that Governor Jagdeep Dhankar rushed to Jadavpur University amidst the stalemate to Babul Supriyo’s rescue.
However, the Governor could not enter the university campus because the students blocked his car at the gate. The governor eventually made through the crowd and reached Babul Supriyo and helped him to the vehicle. Governor Dhankhar and Babul Supriyo finally left the campus late in the evening hours after university teachers stepped in and persuaded the agitating students to lift their blockade.
The incident was followed by political slugfest and hypocrisy too. TMC secretary-general and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee criticised Governor Jagdeep Dhankar for his “partisan approach” terming it “unfortunate and shocking” that he went to campus without informing the ruling dispensation for rescue of the union minister.
On the other hand BJP national general secretary and the party’s Bengal minder Kailash Vijayvergiya termed the incident as an ample evidence of worsening law and order situation in Bengal.
Kailash Vijayvergiya opined that the entire drama was allowed by TMC government and the police.
